A Long History of Lions

So here's a song you've probably heard a million times. But this is the original...the very very first version. It's called "Mbube" and it's by a man named Solomon Linda, who recorded it with his group, The Evening Birds, in South Africa in the 1940s. The song became very popular in South Africa, but didn't quite make it to the United States in its original form.

Years later, The Tokens adopted the song and changed its lyrics to English, and the version that had a major affect on music in the early 1960s and rose to the top of the US Pop charts was born...
